With springtime comes a whole multitude of wonderful things. We begin to see more of the sun on a daily basis, and the grass and flowers growing all around us bring out smiles everywhere we turn. Unfortunately, spring also means the time has come to do some deep cleaning around the house.
Despite the fact that spring cleaning isn’t exactly fun, there are ways to make the whole event more productive. Instead of just scrubbing and shining during your cleaning session, why not take care of multiple tasks while you’re at it? This will help you save time in the long run and will leave your home feeling refreshed and ready to take on the new season.
Nobody likes the feeling of being surrounded by stuff. This is especially true if you’re the one who ends up cleaning up said stuff day in and day out. Why not get rid of some stress this spring by cleaning out your cabinets and closets and getting rid of items you don’t use?
By pulling everything out of these storage spaces, you can really see exactly what you need to get rid of. Additionally, empty closets and cabinets present the perfect opportunity for painting and reorganizing your storage space and even replacing old cabinetry.
After cleaning through your things and deciding what to keep and what to clear out of your home, consider donating any still-usable items to charity. A local food bank is sure to make use of any non-perishable foods you find in your pantry, and old clothing and household items can go to a charity that will sell those items to raise funds.
Donating your old things helps you clear your home of clutter while simultaneously giving you something to feel good about. Therefore, it is a clear win-win solution and one that everyone should take advantage of.
Another task that can be accomplished during spring cleaning is the replacement of old furniture, wall art, and rugs. We all do our best to keep our homes looking fresh and up-to-date, but sometimes replacing these items gets pushed to the back-burner.
Use spring cleaning as your cue to get on the ball and replace your worn out items with something new and interesting. This is sure to brighten your entire home and leave you feeling energized, something we can all use during this busy time of the year.
Spring cleaning time is a great chance to clean up your finances as well. Building a household budget and starting a savings account are great things to do while you’re in cleaning mode, and you can start saving a few bucks by making your own cleaning products. After all, spring cleaning requires quite a bit of scrubbing and polishing, and those store-bought products are expensive.
One of our favorite homemade cleaners is both easy to make and incredibly effective when it comes to cleaning things up. Try making a bottle of your own and see for yourself just how awesome it is!
- A spray bottle
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup white vinegar
Mix both ingredients in the spray bottle and use to clean and polish. For especially tough messes, warm the mixture in the microwave.
After cleaning the windows, floors, and everything between, you deserve to relax. Why not make yourself a nice cool drink and hang out on your new couch in your freshly cleaned living room? Basking in the fruits of your labor is sure to make the whole ordeal worthwhile.
